Roma Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Dovbyk · Hummels · Hermoso · Mancini · Angeliño · Zalewski · Cristante · Paredes · Dybala · Pellegrini · RyanRoma plays a high press game designed to squeeze the opposition in their own half, utilizing a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch to create immediate scoring chances. The goal is to dominate the ball through aggressive ball recovery and quick vertical movements.
Ryan acts as the last line of defense, playing out from the back to start the buildup. The back three consists of Hummels, Mancini, and Hermoso, who operate as a narrow defensive block. Hummels uses his aerial strength and reading of the game to sweep behind a high line, while Mancini provides strength in the center. Hermoso covers the left side, allowing the wide players to push higher. This defensive unit stays compact to prevent play through the lines.
The midfield works as a central pairing that connects the defense to the attack. Paredes functions as a deep lying playmaker, looking to recycle possession and find teammates in advanced positions. Beside him, Cristante works to win the second ball and provides much needed energy to the middle of the pitch. The wide midfielders, Zalewski and Angeliño, act as attacking wing backs who provide the width for Roma. They must track back to help the defenders but often push high to overlap the wingers.
In the attacking third, Roma uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Dovbyk acts as the lone striker and a target man, using his physical presence to hold up the ball and win headers. Dybala moves from the left as an inverted winger, cutting inside to create chances or shoot. Pellegrini operates on the right, looking to find pockets of space and deliver crosses. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major tactical strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Zalewski and Angeliño push up to support the wingers. Roma can also achieve numerical superiority in midfield when the wingers tuck in to help Cristante and Paredes. This creates a heavy presence that makes it difficult for opponents to play through the center.
The 3-4-3 formation allows Roma to be a proactive and aggressive side. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate possession and pin the opponent into their own defensive third.
