Leeds Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Struijk · Wöber · Firpo · Gruev · D. James · Ampadu · Piroe · Solomon · Aaronson · Meslier · RodonLeeds focuses on a high press and quick transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and use verticality to catch opponents out of position. The goal is to use aggressive movement to stretch the defence and create chances in the final third.
Meslier stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit operates as a back three where Rodon acts as the right center back and Wöber holds the central position. Struijk operates as the left center back to provide balance. This back three works to cover space and win the second ball while keeping a high line to squeeze the space.
A two man midfield provides the engine for Leeds. Ampadu acts as the central midfielder who shields the defence and breaks up play. Gruev works alongside him to connect the defence and attack by carrying the ball forward. On the flanks, Firpo and D. James play as wide midfielders who provide width. Firpo often pushes up to support the attack while D. James tracks back to help the wide areas.
The attacking unit uses three players to pin the last defender. Piroe leads the line as a pressing centre forward who works to find the feet of his teammates. On the wings, Solomon and Aaronson act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities. They look to find space between the lines and make runs in behind the opposition back line. The forwards press the opposition back line together to force a long ball.
This formation offers several tactical advantages. The three wide players and the wing backs allow for wide overloads that can pull the opposition defence apart. Leeds can also use the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back in dangerous areas. The setup provides speed of transition when the midfield recovers the ball.
The 3-4-3 formation makes Leeds a very dangerous side in transition. This lineup is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line or struggle to deal with intense pressing.
