This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the park and pin the opposition back by overwhelming them in the central zones. The intent is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately exploit the spaces left behind the opponent's midfield.

ZETTERSTROM guards the goal while the defensive unit operates with extreme bravery. The back line consists of only two central defenders, PHILLIPS and CASHIN, who must hold a high line to keep the team compact. These two act as the last line of defense, needing to be ready to sweep behind the high line or intercept long balls played into the space behind them. Because there are no full backs, PHILLIPS and CASHIN must be prepared to defend one on one if the opposition breaks the initial press.

The midfield is the engine of the Derby lineup, featuring a dense five man unit. NYAMBE and ELDER sit in the center to protect the two defenders and recycle possession. OZOH works alongside them to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive line to the attackers. In the half spaces, GOUDMIJN and OSBORN operate as attacking midfielders who look to find pockets of space between the opponent's lines. This midfield block is designed to win the second ball and quickly move the play from side to side.

In the attacking third, the team utilizes three forwards to stretch the defense. YATES acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support. NML and JACKSON operate as wide wingers, with NML staying wide on the left and JACKSON moving on the right to provide width. These wingers can cut inside to create goalscoring chances or deliver crosses into the box. The movement of YATES and the late runs from GOUDMIJN and OSBORN are meant to create chaos in the opposition penalty area.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield, making it difficult for opponents to play through the center. The aggressive positioning of the five midfielders allows Derby to press in coordinated waves, forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. By crowding the middle, the team can also use the wide players to isolate defenders in one on one situations when the ball is switched quickly.
