Blackburn focus on a vertical style of play that looks to hit the opposition quickly, utilizing a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is designed to overwhelm the opponent through heavy numbers in the final third. The goal is to move the ball from the back to the front in as few passes as possible to catch the defense before they can settle.

In goal, PEARS acts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit consists of a narrow pair of central defenders with CARTER and HYAM. CARTER and HYAM must defend man-to-man and win the header when the ball is played long. Because there are only two defenders, they have to stay tight to avoid being split by through balls and must communicate constantly to cover the space behind them.

The midfield relies on a central block of four to control the middle of the pitch. TRONSTAD and BECK operate in a central pairing to control the tempo and win the second ball. JRC works alongside them to provide extra coverage, while TRAVIS plays as an attacking ten to link the midfield to the attack. TRONSTAD is tasked to shield the defense while BECK and JRC try to carry the ball forward into the attacking third.

The attack is extremely aggressive with four players pushing high up the pitch. CANTWELL and OHASHI work as a central partnership, with CANTWELL acting as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition buildup. DOLAN and ACD play as wide wingers, with DOLAN staying wide to spread the defense and ACD looking to cut inside. This front line is built to create runs in behind and use the pace of the attackers to exploit high lines.

Blackburn gain a massive advantage through their numerical superiority in the attacking zone. By committing four players forward, they force the opposition to drop deep into a low block. This creates space for TRAVIS to operate in the pockets between the lines and allows the wide players, DOLAN and ACD, to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for heavy attacking. It is best suited for matches where Blackburn need to score goals quickly against a team that sits deep.
