Cardiff aims to dominate the pitch through a high press and heavy offensive presence using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the field and squeeze the opposition in their own half. By spreading players across the width of the pitch, the team intends to force turnovers and play through the lines quickly to catch opponents off guard.

HORVATH operates between the posts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit is very thin with a central pair of CHAMBERS and DALAND who must be extremely disciplined. These two central defenders often have to cover large spaces behind them due to the high line. They focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines when the team loses possession. Because there are only two defenders, they must stay compact and mark any runners to prevent being bypassed by long balls.

A crowded five man midfield acts as the engine for Cardiff. SIOPIS sits in the middle to shield the defense and recycle possession. To his left, NG works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while O'DOWDA operates as a central midfielder to win the second ball. The wide areas are occupied by RAMSEY and ROBERTSON who act as attacking midfielders to provide width and support the forward line. This midfield block is designed to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and dominate the central zone.

The attacking front line features three players tasked with stretching the opposition. EL GHAZI and WILLOCK act as wide wingers who want to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. KANGA leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the oncoming midfielders. These three attackers press the opposition back line from the front to trigger a press. They look to create runs in behind or combine in tight spaces to split the defense.

This 2-5-3 formation offers massive numerical superiority in the midfield. By packing the central areas, Cardiff can win possession and quickly switch play to the wings. The wide players and attacking midfielders can create overloads to isolate opponents in one on one situations. This setup allows the team to pin the last defender and keep the ball in the final third for long periods.

Cardiff relies on high intensity and central dominance to control the tempo of the game. This formation is best suited for games where the team needs to overwhelm a low block or force a high turnover.
