Norwich focus on a vertical style of play built to hit teams on the break using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup relies on quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. The team looks to move the ball forward rapidly once possession is won, making them very dangerous in open games.

Gunn operates between the posts to organize the backline. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two with Duffy and Cordoba. Duffy acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks, while Cordoba provides cover and wins headers. This small defensive unit must sit deep or step up in unison to manage the space behind them. Because there are only two central defenders, they must stay compact to avoid being split by through balls.

In the center of the pitch, a three man midfield works to control the middle. McLean acts as the central anchor to shield the defence and recycle possession. On either side, Stacey and Doyle work to connect the defensive line to the attack. Stacey provides balance in the middle, while Doyle drives forward with the ball to break the lines. Nunez and Slimane push high into the half spaces to act as attacking midfielders, helping to win the ball high up the pitch and creating passing lanes for the forwards.

The attacking front three provides constant width and central threat. Sainz and Gordon operate as wide wingers who stay near the touchline to stretch the defence. Sainz looks to cut inside to create chances, while Gordon looks to get to the byline. Sargent acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and find space in the box. This front line works in combinations to create runs in behind or receive cutbacks from the wide areas.

Norwich gains a major advantage through their ability to create wide overloads. By pushing Nunez and Slimane high, they can double up on wide players to win the ball back quickly. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a defensive block to an attacking wave in seconds. This allows them to exploit the space left by teams that commit too many players forward.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for high tempo attacking and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games where Norwich can exploit a high line or face an opponent that leaves gaps in the wide areas.
