Leeds aims to play with high intensity and a heavy focus on verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately threaten the opposition with numbers in every zone. The goal is to stretch the defence and use constant movement to create chances in the final third.

Meslier acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very narrow defensive unit. Rodon and Struijk operate as a pair of central defenders who must stay highly concentrated. They often play a high line to squeeze the space and are required to be dominant in the air and quick to cover ground when the opposition hits in behind. Because there are only two defenders, they must be ready to step up to intercept passes and ensure they do not get caught out during transitions.

The midfield is packed with five players to control the center of the pitch. Ampadu plays as the single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Bogle and Firpo occupy the left and right central midfield roles to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Gruev operates in the right half-space to drive forward with the ball, while Aaronson plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. This five man unit allows Leeds to maintain control and press aggressively.

Leeds utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. Joseph acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball. On the wings, Gnonto and Ramazani act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities. They pull wide to stretch the defence before looking to play through the lines. This setup creates constant movement with the wingers looking to isolate a one on one or find combinations in tight spaces with Joseph.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Leeds. The heavy presence in the middle allows for numerical superiority in midfield to dominate the ball. The wide players and the attacking midfielders can create wide overloads to force the opposition out of position. Additionally, the high number of players in advanced positions allows the team to press in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch.

The 2-5-3 formation provides a direct and aggressive way to dominate games through pressing and verticality. It is best suited for situations where Leeds needs to overwhelm an opponent that sits deep in a low block.
