Leeds play with a heavy focus on verticality and aggressive pressing in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and attack with great speed to catch the opposition out of position. The goal is to pin the opponent back and use wide players to stretch the defence while keeping a concentrated presence in the middle.

Meslier operates between the posts as the lone goalkeeper. Ahead of him, Rodon and Struijk form a narrow back two that acts as the foundation of the defensive unit. Rodon acts as a dominant presence in the air and a reliable defender when playing out from the back. These two central defenders must stay compact to cover the wide areas when the midfield pushes forward. The defensive line stays high to squeeze the space and facilitate the press.

The midfield is a dense block designed to control the center of the pitch. Ampadu acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. On either side, Bogle and Firpo occupy the central midfield roles to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Gruev and Aaronson operate in the half spaces as two attacking tens. Gruev is tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high, while Aaronson looks to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. This five man unit provides the engine to recycle possession and drive the ball forward.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers across the front. Ramazani and Gnonto act as wide wingers who want to get to the byline and deliver early crosses. Ramazani prefers to cut inside to create chances, while Gnonto looks to exploit space on the flank. Joseph operates as a pressing centre-forward to lead the line and hold up the ball. The forwards work in combinations to create runs in behind, often looking for a quick transition to hit the opposition on the break.

One major tactical strength for Leeds is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having five players in midfield and three up front, the team can trigger a press from the front to win the ball back high up the pitch. Another advantage is the numerical superiority in the middle of the park. The five man midfield allows the team to control the tempo and easily switch play to the wide areas.

This formation is built for a high risk high reward style of play. It is best suited for games where Leeds want to dominate the ball and suffocate an opponent through constant pressure.
