Millwall looks to play a very direct and high tempo game using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on heavy pressure in the opponent half and rapid transitions to catch the opposition off guard. The intention is to bypass the midfield through quick vertical passes and create chaos in the final third.

JENSEN stays between the posts to oversee the defensive unit. The back line consists of a narrow duo with TANGANA and COOPER acting as the central defenders. TANGANA and COOPER must remain disciplined to cover the large spaces behind them when the team pushes up. They work as a pair to win the second ball and clear the lines when the opposition tries to go direct. Because there are only two central defenders, they have to be dominant in the air and quick to intercept any balls played into the channels.

The midfield is a dense block designed to dominate the center of the pitch. SAVILLE and MITCHELL occupy the central roles to control the tempo and shield the two defenders. HONEYMAN operates as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space and play through the lines. On the flanks, LEONARD and BRYAN provide the width and work hard to track back when the team loses possession. This five man unit connects the defense to the attack by recycling possession and finding the forwards quickly.

Millwall uses three attackers to stretch the opposition defense. COBURN acts as the target man at the front to hold up the ball and win headers. WATMORE and ESSE operate as wide attackers, with WATMORE on the left and ESSE on the right. They look to cut inside to create goalscoring opportunities or stay wide to receive crosses. The front three press the opposition back line intensely to force a long ball and regain control.

A main strength of this formation is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch which helps Millwall control the game. The team can also create wide overloads by using the full width of the pitch through the wide midfielders. This allows the team to switch play quickly and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This aggressive lineup is built to overwhelm opponents through sheer intensity and central dominance. It is best suited for games where Millwall can squeeze the space and force the opposition into mistakes.
