Millwall aims to dominate the central areas of the pitch through a high volume of players, using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball back quickly and overloading the middle to control the tempo of the game. The team is built to play with high intensity, looking to pin the opposition in their own half and use heavy numbers to drive forward.

JENSEN operates between the posts, acting as the foundation of the defensive unit. The back line is a narrow pair consisting of TANGANGA and COOPER, who must play as ball playing defenders to start attacks from the back. Because there are only two central defenders, they often need to step up to squeeze the space and prevent long balls from finding runners. They rely on staying close together to protect the center while the rest of the unit handles the width.

The midfield is a dense block designed to control the game, featuring a five man unit that covers every part of the pitch. HONEYMAN plays as the attacking ten behind the striker to pull defenders out of position, while SAVILLE and MITCHELL work to control the middle. SAVILLE acts to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often looking to carry the ball forward. On the flanks, LEONARD and BRYAN provide the necessary width, helping to recycle possession and move the ball quickly from one side to the other.

In the attacking third, Millwall utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposition. COBURN acts as the focal point, serving as a target man to hold up the ball and bring others into play. To his sides, WATMORE and ESSE function as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances in the half spaces. This front three works together to press the opposition back line, looking to create runs in behind or find space for late runs from the midfield.

One major advantage for Millwall is the massive numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch, which makes it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The wide players and the central core work to create wide overloads, forcing the opposition to shift constantly. This concentration of players allows the team to press in a mid-block or high up the pitch, winning the second ball and starting attacks in dangerous areas.

This 2-5-3 formation is built to overwhelm opponents through central dominance and high pressing. It is a lineup best suited for games where Millwall can dictate the pace and trap the opposition in congested areas.
