Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Raya · White · Ødegaard · Havertz · Saka · Martinelli · Saliba · Rice · Merino · Calafiori · GabrielArsenal looks to dominate possession and win the ball high up the pitch through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to control the tempo and use high pressing to force errors in the opponent half. The Gunners want to dictate the game by controlling the center of the pitch and creating chances through both wide areas and central combinations.
Raya acts as the last line of defense and is able to play short from the back to start attacks. The back four consists of White at right back and Calafiori at left back, who can both push up to support the attack. Saliba and Gabriel operate as the central defensive pair, with Saliba acting as a ball playing defender who can step up into midfield. Gabriel provides aerial strength and physical presence to defend the box. This unit works to keep a high line to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield is a three man midfield with a carrier and a playmaker. Rice sits in the middle to shield the defense and win the second ball, often dropping deep to help the center backs. Merino works alongside him to press aggressively and win possession in the middle third. Ødegaard operates as the creative link, playing through the lines to find the attackers. He looks to receive on the half-turn and drive the ball forward to connect the defensive unit with the front three.
In the attacking phase, Arsenal uses three attackers across the front. Havertz plays as a pressing centre-forward who can hold up the ball and link up play with others. Saka plays as an inverted winger on the right who likes to cut inside to create or shoot, while Martinelli operates on the left to stretch the defence with his pace. The team uses the width provided by the wingers to create space in the middle for late runs. They often look to play one-two combinations to break the defensive line.
One major advantage for Arsenal is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build out from the back. The team also creates wide overloads when White and Saka combine to isolate the opposition fullback. This formation allows for quick transitions once Rice or Merino win the ball back.
This 4-3-3 formation focuses on high pressing and controlling the ball through a strong midfield. It is best suited for games where the team wants to pin the opponent in their own half and dominate territory.
