Starting Lineup

donna · marqui · pacho · hakimi · nuno · neves · barcola · warren · lee · kolo · ruiz

PSG focuses on controlling the game through high pressing and quick ball movement in a 4-3-3. This formation aims to dominate territory by squeezing the pitch and winning the ball back high up the pitch. The lineup is built to transition from a compact defensive unit into a lethal attacking force that punishes teams in the half spaces.

In goal, donna acts as the first point of distribution to build play from the back. The back line operates as a flat back four where hakimi acts as an attacking full back, pushing high to provide width. nuno also moves forward to support the attack, often leaving the central defenders to cover the space. pacho and marqui occupy the central positions, with pacho acting as a ball playing defender to help move the ball into midfield. These two must hold the line and defend zonally to ensure the team is not caught on the break.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a deep lying playmaker. neves sits in the midfield to shield the defence and recycle possession, often dropping deep to collect the ball. warren acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, providing energy in the middle of the pitch. ruiz connects the defensive and attacking lines by playing through the lines to find the forwards. This unit works to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the center.

PSG utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. kolo leads the line as a pressing centre forward, looking to find the feet of the striker or knock it in behind. barcola operates as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and create shooting opportunities. lee plays on the right wing to provide width and deliver early crosses into the box. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the opponent build up.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, with the front three and midfield working together to win it back high up the pitch. The team also creates wide overloads when hakimi and nuno push up, forcing the opposition to defend deep. This ability to spread wide stretches the defence and creates gaps for runners to exploit.

This 4-3-3 setup provides PSG with a powerful platform to dominate possession and strike through quick transitions. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to build play from the back and can be vulnerable to a high press.
