Shakhtar Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Por (Carnesecchi) · Dc (Mancini) · Dc (Tomori) · Dc (Rafa Marin) · E (Dumfries) · C (Barella) · C (Pasalic) · E (Ruggeri) · A (Lookman) · Pc (Thuram) · A (Dennis Man)Shakhtar focuses on a heavy offensive presence through a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and overwhelm the opposition in their own half. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately move into scoring positions.
Pc acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very thin defensive line. The back two consisting of A and A must play a high line to compress the pitch. These central defenders need to be dominant in the air and quick to cover space when the opposition hits in behind. Because there are only two defenders, they must work together to defend zonally and ensure they do not get pulled out of position.
The midfield is a central block of four that connects the defense to the front line. C and C occupy the central roles, where they must work to win the second ball and protect the two central defenders. One of the C players needs to act as a carrier to move the ball forward, while the other shields the defense. On the flanks, E and E provide the width, working to press the opposition wingers and support the attack by pushing high up the pitch.
In the attacking third, Shakhtar uses four players to stretch the defense. Dc and Dc operate as wide wingers, with the instruction to cut inside and create chaos in the box. In the center, Dc and Por act as the strike partnership. One of the Dc players might drop deep to act as a second striker in the hole to link play, while Por works to find the feet of the striker or run in behind the last defender. This front four is designed to create runs in behind and force the opposition back line to retreat.
This formation offers massive numerical superiority in the attacking zones. By having four players in the final third, Shakhtar can create wide overloads and overwhelm the opposition central defenders. The high press from E, E, Dc, Dc, Dc, and Por allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and strike quickly.
Shakhtar relies on this aggressive lineup to dominate matches through sheer offensive volume. It is a high risk, high reward formation best suited for situations where the team needs to chase a goal or break down a low block.
