The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Gueye and A. Doucoure form this pair, tasked with protecting the back four and winning the second ball. Gueye focuses on intercepting passes and breaking up play, while A. Doucoure uses his strength to carry the ball forward and drive into the half spaces. This duo connects the defensive and attacking lines, ensuring the team can transition from a mid-block into a fast attack.

The attack is built around two center forwards, Calvert-Lewin and McNeil, who occupy the opposition center backs. Calvert-Lewin uses his aerial strength to hold up the ball, while McNeil looks to arrive late into the box. On the wings, Ndiaye and Harrison provide width and pace. Ndiaye looks to cut inside from the left, while Harrison stays wide to whip it in from the right. This front four is designed to hit in behind on the transition and create runs in behind the opposition defence.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push up. By having four players high up the pitch, Everton can quickly spread wide and isolate wide players in one-on-one situations. The pairing of Gueye and A. Doucoure also allows for compactness when defending, making it hard for opponents to play through the lines. This allows the team to win it back high up the pitch if the press is triggered.
