T. Strakosha (A.Brignoli / G.Theocharis) · S.Pilios (E.Hajisafi) · H.Moukoudi (A.Callens) · D.Vida (G.Mitoglou) · L.Rota (M.Odubajo) · D.Szymanski (J.Jonson / K.Galanopoulos) · R.Ljubicic (O.Pineda / P.Mantalos) · E.Lamela (R.Pereyra / S.Zuber) · A.Koita (M.Gacinovic) · N.Eliasson / N.Amrabat (P.Fernandes / S.Tsiloulis) · L.Garcia (F.Pierrot)AEK aims to play a direct and aggressive style of football using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to catch the opposition on the break and put immediate pressure on their defensive line. By pushing many players forward, the team seeks to overwhelm the opponent in the final third.
T. Strakosha stays between the posts to organize the defense. The back four operates as a flat line where L.Rota and S.Pilios act as full backs. L.Rota provides width on the right, while S.Pilios stays wider on the left to stretch the play. In the center, D.Vida and H.Moukoudi form the central pairing. D.Vida is dominant in the air and uses his physical presence to win headers, while H.Moukoudi works to cover the space behind. The defensive unit works to keep a high line to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide balance. R.Ljubicic and D.Szymanski sit in front of the defense to shield the back four. R.Ljubicic works to recycle possession and find the attackers, while D.Szymanski has the license to drive forward with the ball. D.Szymanski is known for his high pressing intensity and his ability to make late runs into the box. This pair acts as the link between the defense and the four attackers, ensuring the team is not completely exposed when the ball is lost.
The attacking unit is very spread out with four players across the front. A.Koita plays as an inverted winger on the left, looking to cut inside and find shooting lanes. On the right, N.Eliasson or N.Amrabat provides width to help pull the opposition defenders apart. The two central strikers, E.Lamela and L.Garcia, work in a partnership to lead the line. E.Lamela uses his dribbling style to beat men in tight spaces, while L.Garcia acts as a presence to hold up the ball. This front line looks to hit in behind the defense on the transition to create quick chances.
AEK gains a major advantage through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. This setup creates wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, moving the ball from the double pivot to the four attackers in very few passes.
This 4-2-4 formation is designed for high intensity and verticality. It is best suited for games where AEK needs to score goals quickly against a team that sits deep.
