RB Leipzig focuses on a high press and rapid transitions through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to hunt the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly once the ball is won. The goal is to squeeze the space in the opposition half and use verticality to punish teams that try to play out from the back.

Gulaci guards the goal as the final line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Orban, Lukeba, and Klostermann. Orban acts as the central figure, using his aerial strength to clear the lines and organize the unit. Lukeba and Klostermann occupy the left and right roles in this back three, where they can step up to intercept passes or cover space when the wing backs push high. This defensive block can shift between a high line to keep the team compact or drop into a mid-block when the opponent gains control of the ball.

The midfield operates with a double pivot of Kampl and Aidara to control the center of the pitch. Kampl uses his driving style to carry the ball forward and connect the defense to the attack, while Aidara works to shield the defense and win the second ball. On the flanks, Raum and Henrichs act as wing backs to provide the necessary width. Raum plays as a left midfielder who can overlap to send crosses into the box, while Henrixs provides the balance on the right. This midfield unit is designed to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch.

RB Leipzig uses three attackers to stretch the defense. Sesko plays on the left wing as an inverted winger who cuts inside to find shooting lanes, while Simons operates on the right wing to create chances. Openda acts as the lone striker and a pressing centre-forward, constantly looking to run in behind the last defender. The movement of Sesko and Simons creates space for Openda to find himself in one on one situations. The team attacks in combinations, looking to use the wide players to pull the defense apart before playing through the lines to the central striker.

The tactical advantages of this formation include the ability to press high in coordinated waves across the front and middle thirds. By using a three man defense alongside energetic wing backs, RB Leipzig creates wide overloads that force opponents to defend deep. This setup also allows for extreme speed of transition, as the players are positioned to break quickly once the ball is recovered.

This 3-4-3 formation is built for a high intensity style that relies on winning the ball high and attacking with speed. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play under pressure or leave large spaces behind their defensive line.
