Starting Lineup

Soulemou · M. Cisse · Y.dembele · Abdoul · A.bah · Élie · Sylla · A.bangoura · Sékou · Cheick · Touré

Guinea aims to play a high press and heavy vertical football. The team utilizes a 4-3-3 formation to press from the front and win the ball back high up the pitch. This lineup is designed to transition quickly and hit in behind on the transition once the ball is won in the final third.

Soulemou guards the goal as the goalkeeper. The defense operates with a flat back four where Y.dembele and M. Cisse act as the full backs. Y.dembele looks to overlap the winger to provide width, while M. Cisse stays back to cover the space. In the center, Abdoul and Élie form the defensive pairing. Abdoul works to cover the area behind a high line, whereas Élie is there to win the header and clear the lines during aerial duels. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space and force the opposition wide.

The middle of the pitch features a three-man midfield with a carrier. Sylla sits deeper to shield the defense and recycle possession. A.bah and A.bangoura operate ahead of Sylla to press in a mid-block and win the second ball. A.bah looks to carry the ball forward and drive into the half-spaces, while A.bangoura works to intercept the pass and play through the lines. This trio connects the defensive unit to the attack by moving the ball quickly through the thirds.

The attacking unit consists of three attackers across the front. Cheick plays as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and pin the last defender. Sékou and Touré act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. Sékou prefers to cut inside to find the feet of the striker, while Touré looks to get to the byline and whip it in. The movements are designed to create runs in behind and find combinations in tight spaces.

Guinea possesses a strong ability to press high in coordinated waves to squeeze the space. Another advantage is the speed of transition, allowing the team to break quickly once they recover possession. The formation also allows for wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers and create numerical superiority.

This 4-3-3 lineup is built on high intensity and rapid vertical play. It is most effective against teams that struggle to play short from the back and cannot handle a heavy press.
