Beside him, A.Zambo-Anguissa and O.Ntcham operate as two inverted eights who connect the defensive and attacking lines. Zambo-Anguissa is known for his ability to carry the ball forward, while Ntcham looks to find the feet of the striker. B.Mbeumo and C.Bassogog play as wide midfielders who provide width but also track back to help the full backs.

Cameroon utilizes a lone striker in V.Aboubakar to lead the line. As the captain, Aboubakar acts as a target man to hold up the ball and allow the midfielders to move up the pitch. B.Mbeumo and C.Bassogog operate as wide attackers who look to cut inside and create overloads in the half spaces. The team builds out of possession by sitting in a mid-block, then uses the pace of the wide players to hit in behind on the transition. The goal is to use the strength of Aboubakar to win long balls and lay it off to the runners.

One major advantage for Cameroon is the compactness when defending, which makes it difficult for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when B.Mbeumo and Bassogog exploit the space left by advanced opposition full backs. Having a strong presence like Aboubakar allows the team to bypass the midfield when under pressure and play direct to a focal point.
