Starting Lineup

River plays with a defensive identity built around a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is designed to stay compact and wait for the right moment to break quickly. The main goal is to sit deep and deny space between the lines while preparing to hit in behind on the transition.

Armani stays in goal to lead the back line. The defense works as a back five with Fonseca holding the center. Pezzella and Díaz act as the side center backs to provide cover and win the ball. Pezzella uses his aerial strength to win the header and clear the lines. Acuña and Bustos play as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width. They must track back to help the central defenders if the opposition finds space.

The midfield consists of four players working in a flat line. Meza and Colidio cover the wide channels to support the wing backs and help press the opposition. Mastantuono and Echeverri sit in the middle to connect the defense and the attack. Echeverri looks to carry the ball forward to break the line, while Mastantuono tries to play through the lines to find the striker. This group works to win the second ball and recycle possession to keep the team in the game.

Borja leads the attack as a lone striker and target man. He works to hold up the ball and pin the last defender to allow others to move forward. When River wins the ball, Acuña and Bustos spread wide to stretch the defense. The team looks to use quick combinations or whip it in with crosses to the near post or far post. Borja also presses from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
