Starting Lineup

All Boys relies on a heavy defensive foundation and rapid counter attacks, utilizing a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on staying compact and hitting teams through quick transitions. The main goal is to maintain a solid presence to prevent big chances and then use the pace of the forwards to punish opposition errors. The team looks to sit deep and force the opponent to commit numbers forward before breaking quickly.

Player 1 guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates as a back five with 6 acting as the central anchor to clear the lines and win headers. On either side, 2 and 3 operate as wide centre-backs who cover the space left by the wing backs. The wide roles are filled by 5 and 4, who function as attacking wing backs. They must provide width during the build up but also track back to maintain a narrow defensive block when out of possession.

In the middle of the pitch, 8 and 10 form a double pivot. This pair sits in front of the back five to shield the defense and win the second ball. 8 and 10 work to recycle possession and move the ball forward through the thirds. They serve as the link between the defenders and the front three, often dropping deep to receive from 6 or 2 to start a new attack. By controlling the central zone, 8 and 10 prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

The attacking unit features three players across the front line. 7 and 11 act as wide wingers who stay close to the touchline to stretch the defense. 9 operates as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. When attacking, 7 and 11 look to cut inside or drive toward the byline to deliver early crosses for 9. The movement of the front three is designed to create runs in behind and exploit the spaces between the opposition defenders.

All Boys gains a clear advantage through the numerical superiority in the back line, making it very hard for opponents to find space centrally. The wing backs, 5 and 4, create wide overloads when they push up, forcing the opposition to defend wide areas. Furthermore, the formation allows for great speed of transition, as 8 and 10 can quickly find 7, 11, or 9 to hit in behind on the transition.
