Young Boys look to play with a heavy emphasis on direct attacking and high pressure through a 4-2-4. This formation is built to hit teams hard on the transition and use the wide areas to stretch the opposition. The goal is to pin the opponent back and create constant chaos in their defensive third through rapid verticality.

In goal, von Ballmoos acts as the foundation for the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four with Blum and Hadjam occupying the wide positions. Blum acts as an attacking full back to provide width, while Hadjam stays more disciplined to manage the flank. In the center, Camara and Zoukrou form the core of the defense. Camara works to win the second ball and handle physical strikers, while Zoukrou covers the space behind when the full backs push up. This unit tries to hold a high line to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.

The midfield consists of a double pivot designed to protect the back four and recycle possession. Niasse and Lauper work to control the center of the park. Lauper acts as the primary carrier who drives forward with the ball to connect the lines, while Niasse provides the defensive screen to deny the turn to opposition attackers. Together, they aim to win it back high up the pitch to trigger immediate attacks. This pairing must be disciplined to avoid leaving the two central defenders isolated during a counter attack.

The attacking unit is a high intensity group consisting of four players. Colley and Monteiro stay wide as wingers, with Monteiro looking to cut inside to find goal scoring opportunities and Colley stretching the play on the left. In the center, Ugrinic and Ganvoula operate as a striking partnership. Ganvoula acts as a target man to hold up the ball, allowing Ugrinic to make runs in behind the defense. This front four works to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long balls that the Young Boys defense can intercept.

A major strength of this Young Boys lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers. The formation also offers great speed of transition, making it very difficult for opponents to recover once the ball is won in the midfield. By playing with two strikers and two wingers, they can isolate defenders in one on one situations very effectively.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed for teams that want to dominate through aggressive attacking and high pressing. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or exploit a high line through quick, vertical movements.
