Diakite stays central to command the area and clear the lines. This unit works to hold a compact shape and squeeze the space when the opposition tries to progress.

The midfield functions with a central pairing that connects the defence to the attack. Andre and Gomes act as the engine room, with Andre often looking to drive forward with the ball while Gomes works to shield the defence and intercept passes. They are flanked by Gudmundsson on the left and Santos on the right, who operate as wing backs. These two players must cover the entire flank, pushing high to provide width in attack and tracking back to defend against wide runners.

In the attacking phase, Lille employs three players across the front to pin the last defender. Cabella and Zhegrova act as inverted wingers, cutting inside from the wide areas to create goalscoring opportunities or deliver crosses into the box. They stay wide to stretch the defence before moving into the half spaces. David occupies the central role as a pressing centre-forward, using his strength to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates.
