Starting Lineup

Marquinhos · Pacho · Skriniar · N. Mendes · Hakimi · F. Ruiz · Vitinha · Kolo Muani · Asensio · Dembélé · Safonov

PSG aims to control the game through high pressing and rapid transitions using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball and squeeze the pitch in the attacking third. By spreading the play wide, the team seeks to create gaps between the opposition lines and strike with speed.

Safonov plays between the posts to start the build up from the back. In front of him, a back three provides a solid base. Marquinhos leads the defense as the central defender, while Skriniar and Pacho act as the wide centre-backs. Skriniar provides strength in the air and covers the right side, while Pacho plays as a ball playing defender on the left. This unit can step up to trigger a press or drop back to protect the space behind.

The midfield works in a four man unit to control the center of the pitch. Vitinha and F. Ruiz operate in the middle to connect the defense to the attack. Vitinha is known for his passing range and ability to control the tempo, while F. Ruiz helps to recycle possession and shield the back three. On the flanks, Hakimi and N. Mendes act as wing backs to provide width. Hakimi drives forward with the ball to support the attack, while N. Mendes tracks back to ensure the team stays compact when out of possession.

In the final third, PSG uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. Dembélé and Asensio play as wide attackers, with Dembélé often looking to cut inside to use his dribbling. Asensio operates on the left to provide more technical link up play. Kolo Muani leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, looking to run in behind the defenders or hold up the ball for others. The front line works together to press the opponent and force turnovers high up the pitch.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of wide overloads and numerical superiority. When Hakimi and Dembélé push high, they create space for overlaps that pull the opposition defense apart. The ability to press in coordinated waves from the front three and the midfield allows PSG to win the ball back high up the pitch. This aggressive positioning makes them very dangerous during transitions.

The 3-4-3 lineup is a high intensity system designed to dominate possession and exploit wide areas. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a deep defensive block through constant pressure.
