High pressing is the main identity for Young Boys, which they execute through a 4-3-3 formation. The team seeks to win the ball high up the pitch to launch immediate attacks. This lineup is built to play vertical football that moves the opposition back toward their own goal. By keeping the lines high, the team forces the opponent into mistakes and quick turnovers.

Von Ballmoos operates as the goalkeeper and is able to play short from the back to start attacks. The back line consists of a flat back four where Janko plays as the right back and Hadjam acts as the left back. Benito and Camara function as the two central defenders. Janko and Hadjam push up to overlap the wingers and create numerical advantages. Benito and Camara must hold the line and be ready to cover the space if the team is caught in transition. They defend zonally to ensure the team remains compact when the opponent has the ball.

The midfield works as a three-man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten. Virginius plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Niasse and Lakomy occupy the deeper roles to shield the defence. Lakomy drives forward with the ball to break the line, while Niasse focuses on winning the second ball and recycling possession. This unit works to compress the midfield and deny the pivot from finding space between the lines.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers across the front. Ganvoula acts as the central striker to find the feet of his teammates and hold up the ball. Ugrinić and Monteiro play as inverted wingers who cut inside to create more central presence. Monteiro and Ugrinić pull wide to stretch the defence before they cut inside. The forwards press from the front to trigger a high press, aiming to win it back high up the pitch. This allows for quick combinations and runs in behind the opposition defence.

Young Boys possess a clear advantage through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. This constant pressure makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. Another strength is the creation of wide overloads when Janko and Hadjam join the attack. These overlapping movements allow the team to switch play and find space on the flanks. This formation allows for quick transitions to catch the opponent out of position.

The 4-3-3 formation is a high energy system designed to dominate through pressure. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to pass under intense pressure.
