This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch to immediately attack the opposition. The team aims to dominate through heavy ball circulation and wide overloads to stretch the opponent.

Hradecky sits between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back three consists of Tah, Tapsoba, and Hincapie who work to maintain a high line. Tah acts as the central anchor, dominant in the air and capable of stepping into midfield to help progress the ball. Tapsoba and Hincapie provide cover on either side, ensuring the unit can squeeze the space in a mid-block or recover if the opposition hits in behind.

The midfield operates with a central pairing of Andrich and Xhaka. Xhaka, the captain, uses his passing range to connect the defensive and attacking lines and often drops deep to receive from the defenders. Andrich provides the physical presence to shield the defence and win the second ball. On the flanks, Grimaldo and Frimpong function as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and overlap the attackers.

Bayer Leverkusen utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender and create constant pressure. Boniface acts as a powerful presence up front, holding up the ball to allow others to join the attack. Wirtz operates from the left, often cutting inside to find space between the lines and play through the lines with incisive passes. Terrier provides industry on the right wing, pressing from the front and making runs in behind to stretch the defence.

This formation offers significant advantages through wide overloads created by the wing backs and the front three. The presence of Xhaka and Andrich allows for numerical superiority in the middle of the park to control the tempo. Additionally, the ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back.
