Fenerbahçe aims to control games through high pressing and central density using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to suffocate opponents in their own half and win the ball back quickly. By stacking the middle of the pitch, the team creates constant pressure to win the second ball and launch immediate attacks.

Dominik Livaković plays behind a very narrow defensive line consisting of only two central defenders. Çağlar Söyüncü and Alexander Djiku act as the primary shield, where Söyüncü uses his aerial strength to win headers and Djiku provides cover to sweep behind the line. Because there are no traditional full backs, these two must stay compact to prevent being stretched, relying on the midfield to cover the wide areas.

The midfield is the engine of this formation, utilizing a five man block to dominate the center. Sofyan Amrabat and Frederico Santos operate in the middle to connect the defense to the attack, while Sebastian Szymański plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. Bright Osayi-Samuel and Jayden Oosterwolde sit deeper to protect the two center backs, acting as defensive pivots to deny the turn of opposition attackers. This group works to squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opposition.

In the attacking third, the team employs three forwards to pin the last defender. Youssef En-Nesyri acts as the main target man, using his physicality to hold up the ball and flick on long passes. Allan Saint-Maximin and Cengiz Ünder act as wide attackers who stretch the defence, with Saint-Maximin looking to cut inside and drive at the defense with his dribbling style. These three forwards press from the front to force mistakes and create quick transitions.

Fenerbahçe gains a significant advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The coordination of the five midfielders allows the team to press in waves, often trapping opponents in wide areas before they can find a way out. This setup also allows for quick verticality when the ball is won high up the pitch.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for teams that want to dominate possession and press aggressively. It is best suited for games where the opponent struggles to play out from the back under pressure.
