Hutchinson and Delap operate as a strike partnership, with Delap using his physical presence to hold up the ball and Hutchinson making runs in behind to exploit the space. This front four works to press the opposition high up the pitch to force a long ball.

Ipswich gains a massive advantage through the speed of transition when moving from a defensive block to an attacking state. The formation also creates wide overloads when Davis and Szmodics combine to overload the left side of the pitch. By pushing four players forward, the team can pin the last defender and force the opposition into a low block.
