The midfield functions as a four man line to squeeze the space in the middle. Rice plays as a central midfielder who shields the defense and wins the second ball. Odegaard operates as a playmaker who receives the ball on the half turn to connect the lines. Saka and Martinelli occupy the wide areas to provide an outlet, with Martinelli using his pace to stretch the opposition. This unit works to press in a mid block, forcing the opponent into wide areas where they can be trapped.

Havertz leads the line as a lone striker, tasked with holding up the ball to allow the midfielders to move up. He works to pin the last defender and creates space for others to run into. Saka and Martinelli act as wide midfielders who can cut inside to create overloads. When the team wins the ball, the intention is to hit in behind on the transition. The forwards press from the front to trigger a press, forcing long balls that the back five can easily intercept.

One major advantage of this Arsenal lineup is the compactness when defending, which makes it nearly impossible for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when Saka or Martinelli carry the ball forward. Having White and Gabriel as high wing backs allows the team to create wide overloads during attacking phases.
