Boca aims to sit deep and win the ball to strike on the break in a 5-4-1. This formation relies on a compact defensive block to deny space between the lines before looking to play through the lines. Romero guards the goal while a back five maintains a narrow defensive block. Fernández sits in the middle of the three central defenders to clear the lines and organize the unit. Anselmino plays as the left centre back to cover space and win headers, while figal acts as the right centre back to provide physical presence. Advíncula operates as an attacking wing back on the right to provide width, and blanco performs a similar role on the left to stretch the defence. The unit stays compact to prevent through balls.

A four man midfield occupies the central areas to protect the back five. Medina plays as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Martegani sits alongside him to win the second ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Zenón and zeballos operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders to provide creative spark. Zenón looks to carry the ball forward and play short from the back to start attacks, while zeballos focuses on delivering crosses or finding the feet of the striker.

The attack is led by a lone striker, Merentiel, who acts as a pressing centre forward. Merentiel works to pin the last defender and hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the play. The wide players, zenón and zeballos, look to find the feet of the striker or knock it in behind the defence. When Boca wins the ball, the wing backs, advíncula and blanco, push high to create wide overloads. The goal is to create situations where Merentiel can turn or play a one two with a late runner.

This lineup offers significant strength through its ability to hold a compact shape when defending deep. The presence of advíncula and blanco provides the potential for quick wide overloads during a transition. Boca can also use the width to switch play quickly once the ball is won back in the middle third.

This 5-4-1 formation is built to absorb pressure and exploit space on the counter at pace. It is best suited for games against heavy possession sides where Boca can defend in a low block and hit in behind on the transition.
