Chelsea focuses on winning it back high up the pitch and plays with a vertical intent using a 4-2-4. This lineup focuses on high pressure and quick transitions to force mistakes. The team pushes high and uses their numbers in the final third to recover possession quickly. This formation is built to attack with high intensity to keep the ball in the opponent half.

Sanchez stays in goal to command the box and organize the unit. A flat back four forms the base with Malo Gusto at right back and Cucurella at left back. Fofana and Colwill act as the two central defenders to hold the line and defend zonally. Fofana uses his aerial strength to win the header while Colwill looks to play out from the back and find teammates. Malo Gusto will push up to overlap the winger and Cucurella provides cover to manage the space behind the high line.

A double pivot occupies the center of the pitch with Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. Caicedo works to deny the pivot and press in a mid-block to win the ball back. Enzo Fernandez acts to progress through the thirds and play through the lines to connect the defense to the attack. These two must work to cover the space behind the attacking line and recycle possession when the tempo slows to maintain control.

The front line is heavy with four attackers to stretch the defence. Madueke and Sancho act as wide players, with Madueke looking to cut inside and Sancho providing width to pull defenders away. Palmer and Jackson lead the way as two central forwards. Jackson works to hold up the ball and find the feet of the striker, while Palmer looks to arrive late into the box and find space between the lines. They press from the front to force a long ball and win the second ball to maintain momentum.

This formation offers the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four attackers, Chelsea can pin the last defender and create wide overloads. The speed of transition allows them to hit in behind on the transition and counter at pace to catch the opposition before they can recover.

This 4-2-4 lineup is built for high intensity and aggressive attacking. It works best against opponents who try to play out from the back and can be caught by a high press.
