Starting Lineup

Atl. Tucumán relies on a compact, counter-attacking identity within a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and strike quickly on the break. The goal is to win the ball in the middle third and immediately look to exploit the space behind the opponent's high line.

DIAZ stays in goal to command the area. The back five consists of ALVAREZ as the central defender, with CHAPARRO and DA SILVEIRA acting as the wide center-backs to cover the channels. DIAZ and BORGO operate as attacking wing backs to provide width, but they must track back to form a narrow defensive block when the team is out of possession. ALVAREZ works to hold the line, while the others shift to pick up runners.

The midfield functions as a three-man unit to connect the defense and the attack. BENITTI and ALEGRE act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. RODRIGUEZ plays as an attacking ten behind the forwards to bridge the gap between the lines. BENITTI and ALEGRE look to recycle possession or carry the ball forward to find the feet of the strikers.

Up front, the team uses two forwards in a partnership. GONZALEZ and LOPEZ work together to press the opposition back line and make runs in behind. Since there are no traditional wingers, width is provided by the overlapping runs of DIAZ and BORGO. These wing backs look to get to the byline and whip it in for the front two. GONZALEZ and LOPEZ often combine in tight spaces to pull defenders out of position.

A key strength for Atlético Tucumán is the ability to press in a mid-block and maintain compactness when defending. The formation creates numerical superiority in the box when the team attacks. Additionally, the lineup allows for great speed of transition to hit the opposition on the break.
