Starting Lineup

Ternana focuses on a direct and aggressive style of play using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to strike quickly on the transition and use wide areas to stretch the opposition. The team looks to win the ball in the middle third and push players forward immediately to catch the defense before they can settle.

Thiam plays between the posts as the goalkeeper to anchor the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back three with Bellich acting as the left centre-back and Ruggero playing as the right centre-back. Folino sits in the middle to hold the line and organize the defenders. These three work to defend zonally, with Bellich and Ruggero ready to cover the wide spaces when the wing backs push up. The unit aims to stay compact and make sure they do not leave gaps behind for runners to exploit.

The midfield operates with a central pairing of Buglio and Leone to control the center of the pitch. Buglio and Leone act as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession when needed. On the flanks, Mussolini and Rocchetti act as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width. Mussolini and Rocchetti must track back to help the defenders when the team is out of possession and support the central pair to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Ternana employs three attackers to maintain constant pressure on the back line. Adorante leads the line as a lone striker, looking to hold up the ball and provide a focal point for the team. Mosti and Piscopo operate as wide attackers, with Mosti on the left and Piscopo on the right. Mosti and Piscopo often cut inside to create goalscoring chances, which allows the wide midfielders to overlap and send crosses into the box. This front three works to press the opposition high and create runs in behind.

The tactical advantages of this formation include the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Rocchetti and Mussolini alongside the wingers. Ternana can also achieve high pressing intensity in coordinated waves when the front three and wide midfielders trigger a press. The setup allows for a very fast break when the ball is won, using the width to hit the opposition on the transition.
