Starting Lineup

A heavy emphasis on high pressing and verticality defines this PSG lineup in a 4-2-4. This formation is built to overwhelm the opposition by committing many players to the final third and hunting the ball back immediately after losing it. PSG look to use their attacking numbers to stretch the opposition defense and create constant chaos in the attacking phase.

AI guards the goal and organizes the defensive unit. The back four stays relatively high to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. DDaDac acts as the right back to provide width while HanWooRa occupies the left back position. In the center, AI and AI form the defensive pair, tasked with holding the line and clearing the lines when the high press is bypassed. They must be ready to cover the space behind the full backs if the opposition breaks quickly.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the central zone. LEE_soonmoong and JANGGO0110 operate as the two central midfielders, tasked with shielding the defense and winning the second ball. LEE_soonmoong works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while JANGGO0110 looks to drive forward with the ball to support the front four. This duo must stay compact to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines and to ensure they do not get caught too far from the center.

Up front, the team utilizes four attackers to pin the last defender. Won and SkaGoGo act as wide wingers, with Won staying wide on the left and SkaGoGo cutting inside from the right to create goalscoring chances. The central presence is handled by a two-man partnership of panch25 and Jay. These two forwards function as a pressing centre-forward pair, working to force a long ball from the opposition defenders. They often look to play one-two combinations to split the defense with a through ball.

The main strength of this PSG formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four players close to the opposition back line, the team can trigger a press much higher up the pitch. This creates significant wide overloads when HanWooRa and DDaDac push forward to overlap the wingers. Another advantage is the speed of transition, as the team is perfectly positioned to counter at pace the moment they win the ball back in the attacking third.

This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for aggressive attacking. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or when facing an opponent that struggles to play out from the back.
