Independiente Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Montiel · Vera · Pellegrino · Lomonaco · Fedorco · Marcone · Loyola · Gimenez · Atencio · Santi Lopez · ReyIndependiente aims to control the tempo of matches through a high press and quick transitions in a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup focuses on squeezing the space in the middle of the pitch to force turnovers. The goal is to use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition before playing through the lines to the forwards.
Rey guards the goal as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Fedorco, Pellegrino, and Lomonaco. Fedorco acts as the central figure to win the header and clear the lines. Lomonaco and Pellegrino cover the spaces to the sides and can step up to intercept passes. When the team loses the ball, they quickly drop into a compact defensive block to deny space between the lines.
The midfield consists of a central trio with Marcone, Loyola, and Atencio. Marcone sits deep to shield the defense and recycle possession. Loyola and Atencio work to connect the defensive and attacking lines by carrying the ball forward into the half spaces. Montiel and Vera operate as wide midfielders who provide the width. Montiel and Vera must track back to help the back three but also push up to join the attack.
In the final third, Independiente utilizes a two-man partnership with Santi Lopez and Gimenez. Santi Lopez works as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up from the back. Gimenez plays alongside him to find pockets of space and arrive late into the box. The team builds attacks by using the wide players to stretch the defense, allowing the strikers to make runs in behind or link up play in tight spaces.
One major advantage of this formation for Independiente is the numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Having three central midfielders allows them to win the second ball and control the rhythm. The team also benefits from the ability to create wide overloads when Montiel and Vera push high to support the attacking movements. This setup makes it difficult for opponents to maintain possession in the middle third.
This 3-5-2 formation is built for teams that want to dominate the central areas and strike with speed. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play with a narrow midfield and struggle to handle wide runners.
