Tottenham looks to dominate through a high press and rapid verticality using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to pin the opposition back and force mistakes high up the pitch. The front line is extremely aggressive with four attackers. Maddison plays as a second striker in the hole, looking to play through the lines and find the feet of the striker. Solanke acts as the primary target man to hold up the ball and contest aerial duels. On the wings, Son cuts inside from the left to use his clinical finishing, while Johnson stays wide to stretch the defense and provide runs in behind. This group works together to press the opposition back line from the front.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The team can also isolate wide players in one on one situations when Porro or Udogie overlap the winger. This creates significant pressure on the opposition full backs and creates space in the half spaces for Maddison to operate.
