Boca looks to play with a heavy emphasis on defensive stability and quick transitions in a 5-3-2. This formation is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting teams on the break. Mele starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. The back five functions as a deep block with Federico Redondo acting as the central anchor to clear the lines. Blondel operates as a right wing back to provide width, while Blanco plays as the left wing back to stretch the pitch. Foyth and Valentín Gómez act as the wide centre backs to cover the channels and win the header in physical duels. This unit stays narrow to deny space in the middle and forces opponents to play wide.

A three man midfield controls the central zone to protect the back line. Williams Alarcón and Garro work to protect the pivot area and win the second ball to keep possession moving. Thiago Almada plays as the attacking ten behind the two strikers, looking to find the feet of the forwards or play through the lines. Garro helps to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession when the team faces heavy pressure.

The attack features two forwards in a partnership to trouble the opposition defence. Alan Velasco and Gonzalo Morales work together to push the line high when needed, but they often drop slightly to link up with Thiago Almada. The team looks to use the width provided by Blondel and Blanco to whip it in or deliver early balls into the box. In transition, the strikers make runs in behind to catch the defenders out of position.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to stay compact when defending in a low block. By using five defenders, the team makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines.
