Abdul Mumin works to intercept passes, while M.Salisu looks to win the second ball and move the play forward. On the flanks, T.Lamptey plays as the right midfielder to help the wing back, while G.Mensah operates on the left. This group tries to stay close together to compress the midfield and make it hard for opponents to play through the lines.

The attack relies on a lone striker, L.Ait-Zigi, who stays high up the pitch. L.Ait-Zigi must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch during transitions. Because Ghana uses a single striker, the width comes from the wing backs and wide midfielders. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition, using the space left by attacking opponents.
