Leeds aim to dominate through high pressing and aggressive verticality in this 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in their own half and win the ball high up the pitch. By pushing so many bodies forward, Leeds want to squeeze the space and force errors in the buildup phase.

Whalley sits between the two central defenders to act as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a narrow pair with Frew and Duffield acting as the primary defenders. Because there are only two central defenders, they must stay compact and be ready to cover wide areas if the opposition breaks the lines. They often have to defend large amounts of space behind them, so they must be ready to step up or drop back quickly to manage the distance between the units.

The midfield is a heavy five man block that occupies the entire central corridor of the pitch. Hart sits in the middle to connect the defense to the attack and recycle possession when needed. To his sides, Sherwin and J. Baker act as the driving force, with Sherwin looking to carry the ball forward and J. Baker working to win the second ball. Whipp and Swann operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders, pushing high to support the front three and create passing lanes through the middle.

Leeds use three attackers to pin the opposition back and create constant threat. Richmond acts as the central striker to lead the press and hold up the ball for the players arriving late into the box. Harris and Coates operate as wide attackers, with Harris playing on the left and Coates on the right. They look to stretch the defense by pulling wide before cutting inside to find space between the lines. This front line is designed to attack in combinations and exploit any gaps left by a retreating back line.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having five midfielders and three forwards, Leeds can quickly win the ball back high up the pitch. This creates a significant numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it difficult for opponents to defend against the numbers. The width provided by the attacking midfielders and wide forwards also allows the team to spread wide and pull the opposition out of position.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for heavy offensive pressure and high intensity. It is best suited for games where Leeds want to dominate possession and force an opponent into a deep, retreating block.
