In the center of the pitch, France utilizes a three-man midfield with a single pivot to protect the back four. N'golo sits in the deep position to shield the defense and intercept passes, while A works alongside him to win the second ball. The attack is built around a lone striker, K, who acts as a pressing centre-forward. K works to pin the last defender and disrupt the build up from the opposition goalkeeper. When the team wins the ball, the midfielders look to hit in behind on the transition to find K. The midfielders can also arrive late into the box to support the attack while K tries to hold up the ball to bring others into play.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages by creating a compact shape when defending. France can use the five midfielders to compress the midfield and deny the turn of opposing playmakers. Additionally, the team is capable of a very high press in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opposition.
