Starting Lineup

Burian · Maroš · Podkonický · Makky · Vodera · Boledovič ("C") · Charvát · Havlík · Šulák · Janitor · Cserepkai

Šamorín looks to play a direct style of football built on a strong defensive base through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on sitting deep to invite the opposition forward before looking to hit them in behind on the transition. The goal is to remain hard to beat while maintaining enough bodies in the defensive third to manage wide areas and central threats effectively.

Burian stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line operates as a back five where Boledovič sits in the middle as the central defender to win the header and command the area. Podkonický plays as the right centre-back to cover the space behind the wing back, while Makky occupies the left centre-back role to provide cover. Maroš acts as the right wing back to push up the flank, and Vodera plays as the left wing back to provide width. The unit works to hold the line and ensure they do not get caught too high up the pitch.

The midfield functions as a double pivot consisting of Charvát and Havlík. These two players must work hard to protect the centre of the pitch and shield the back five. Charvát and Havlík act as the link between the defence and the attack, with one often dropping to help build play from the back while the other looks to press in a mid-block. They need to win the second ball and quickly find the front three to spark a break.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Šulák operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and battle with the opposition centre-backs. Janitor plays on the right wing to provide width, while Cserepkai occupies the left wing. These wide players look to cut inside or get to the byline to whip it in for the striker. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and isolate defenders in one on one situations during quick transitions.

This formation offers Šamorín significant compactness when defending in a low block. By having five defenders and two midfielders sitting deep, they make it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. The setup also allows for wide overloads when Maroš and Vodera step up to support the attackers. This provides the team with the ability to transition from a defensive stance to an attacking one with great speed.

The 5-2-3 formation provides Šamorín with a solid foundation for a counter attacking game. It is best suited for matches against teams that control possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
