Starting Lineup

Cambiaso · Di Gregorio · Skriniar · Bremer · Danilo · Locatelli · Vlahovic · Koopmeiners · D. Luiz · Yildiz · N. González

Juventus plays a 5-2-3 formation. The team identity is focused on being defensively solid and using verticality to strike quickly. This lineup is built to sit in a mid block and wait for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition. By keeping a tight unit, Juventus can absorb pressure and then break quickly.

Di Gregorio stays between the posts to lead the defensive unit. The back five features a central trio of Bremer, Skriniar, and Locatelli. Locatelli sits in the center to shield the defense and win the second ball while Bremer and Skriniar use their aerial strength to defend the box. Danilo and Cambiaso act as attacking wing backs who push high to provide width and overlap the winger. They are tasked to carry the ball forward and deliver early crosses into the area.

In the middle, the team uses a double pivot consisting of D. Luiz and Koopmeiners. D. Luiz works to deny the pivot of the opposition and cover the space behind the attackers to prevent counters. Koopmeiners has the freedom to carry the ball forward and arrive late into the box to score. This pairing links the defense to the attack by playing short from the back and then searching for passes to break the line.

The attacking front consists of three players. Vlahovic acts as a target man to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Yildiz and N. González play as wide forwards who often cut inside to find space between the lines. This movement forces the opposition to collapse centrally, which allows Danilo and Cambiaso to get to the byline and cut it back. The forwards press from the front to trigger a press and force a long ball.

A major strength is the ability to create wide overloads with the attacking wing backs. This creates constant 2v1 situations on the flanks to stretch the defense. The formation also provides great compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines or find space in the pockets.

This 5-2-3 lineup is designed for defensive stability and quick transitions. Juventus is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession and play with a high line.
