Czechia National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
KINSKÝ · HOLEŠ · ZIMA · BOŘIL · DOUDĚRA · SOUČEK · ČERV · ZMRZLÝ · PROVOD · HLOŽEK · CHORÝCzechia relies on a direct and hard working identity within a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to control the central areas of the pitch and win second balls to maintain pressure on the opposition. The team looks to use the width of the pitch through wide midfielders while staying compact in the middle to force mistakes.
Kinský operates between the posts as the goalkeeper to organize the defensive line. The back three consists of Zima, Holeš, and Bořil who defend in a narrow defensive block. Holeš and Bořil act as wide centre backs to cover the spaces left by the wingers, while Zima stays central to win the header and clear the lines. This unit works to stay close together to prevent passes through the middle and relies on Zima to sweep behind a high line when needed.
The midfield is a five man unit that connects the defence to the attack. Souček and Červ act as a double pivot to shield the defence and win the ball in a mid block. Souček uses his aerial strength and high pressing intensity to disrupt play, while Červ works to carry the ball forward and connect the lines. Provod plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to find the feet of the attackers, while Zmrly and Douděra operate as wide midfielders who provide width and track back to help the defence.
The attacking front line features a partnership of two forwards. Chorý and Hložek work in tandem to pin the last defender and create runs in behind. Chorý acts as a focal point to hold up the ball, allowing Hložek to arrive late into the box or make diagonal runs. This duo presses the opposition back line to force a long ball, while Provod looks to play through the lines to split the defence. The team builds the attack through quick combinations in tight spaces or by using the wingers to get to the byline and cut it back.
Czechia gains a tactical advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. The presence of five players in the middle allows them to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition players. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Zmrly and Douděra push high to support the attack, forcing the opposition to stretch their defensive line.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a compact and physical presence in the center of the pitch. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play through the middle or when Czechia needs to counter at pace.
