PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
DONNARUMMA · MENDES · BERALDO · MARQUINHOS · HAKIMI · FABIAN · VITINHA · EMERY · MBAPPE · RAMOS · DEMBELEParis Saint-Germain plays with a high press and a focus on possession using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the ball and attack vertically to catch the opposition off guard. The goal is to control the game through short passing and constant movement to stretch the defence and create space.
DONNARUMMA starts in goal to command the area and sweep behind the high line. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four. MENDES acts as an attacking full back on the left, while HAKIMI performs a similar role on the right to provide width through his runs. BERALDO and MARQUINHOS occupy the central positions, where MARQUINHOS uses his aerial strength to defend crosses and win headers. The defensive line works to hold a high line to squeeze the space and support the midfield unit.
The midfield functions as a three man unit to control the centre of the pitch. VITINHA sits in front of the defence to receive the ball from the centre backs and recycle possession. FABIAN and EMERY play as the more advanced midfielders to press aggressively and win the ball high up the pitch. VITINHA helps to connect the defensive and attacking lines by playing through the lines. FABIAN and EMERY look to drive forward with the ball to create numerical superiority in the middle and provide support to the forwards.
In the attacking phase, PSG uses three attackers to pressure the opposition. RAMOS works as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and win the second ball. MBAPPE plays on the left and often cuts inside to use his dribbling style and explosive pace to attack the goal. DEMBELE operates on the right wing to use his dribbling to isolate defenders in one on one situations. The team attacks in combinations, with players looking to play one two passes and make runs in behind the defence.
The formation offers great speed of transition to exploit spaces. When PSG wins the ball, MBAPPE and DEMBELE can hit in behind on the transition to catch teams out. There is also the potential for wide overloads because HAKIMI and MENDES will overlap the wingers. This forces the opposition to shift wide and leaves gaps in the centre for VITINHA and the other midfielders to find the feet of the striker or play through the defence.
This 4-3-3 lineup relies on high intensity and rapid attacking movements. It is most effective against teams that defend in a low block and struggle with wide overloads and pace.
