Starting Lineup

Boca relies on a direct and aggressive style of play, utilizing a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the second ball and strike hard through transitions. The team seeks to control the central areas and use their numbers to overwhelm opponents in both boxes.

Romero starts between the posts to command the area. Ahead of him, a back three consists of Medel, Anselmino, and Figal. Medel acts as the leader in the center, often stepping up to intercept passes or engage attackers early. In the final third, Boca employs two forwards in a partnership. Merentiel and Cavani lead the line, with Merentiel acting as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line. Cavani uses his experience to hold up the ball and link up play with the advancing midfielders. The wide players look to spread wide to stretch the defence, creating gaps for Zenón or Belmonte to exploit. The attack is designed to create runs in behind and quick combinations in tight spaces.

One major advantage for Boca is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to dominate the central zone. The formation also provides the ability to press high in coordinated waves, led by the intensity of Merentiel and the midfield trio.
