Juventus Football Formation
Starting Lineup
PROULX · SALVAI · LENZINI · BOATTIN · CALLIGARIS · CARUSO · BENNISON · CANTORE · BECCARI · BONANSEA · VANGSGAARDJuventus relies on a high press and rapid attacking movements within a 4-2-4 formation. The team is built to play a vertical game that catches the opposition in transition. This lineup seeks to dominate the game by keeping a large number of players in the attacking third.
PROULX acts as the goalkeeper to help play out from the back. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with CALLIGARIS at right back and BOATTIN at left back. SALVAI and LENZINI operate as the central defenders. SALVAI and LENZINI must hold a high line to squeeze the space and prevent the opponent from turning. CALLIGARIS and BOATTIN are required to cover the flanks and prevent runners from getting behind them. The unit must stay compact and defend zonally to avoid being split by long balls.
The midfield is controlled by a double pivot of CARUSO and BENNISON. These two must protect the defense as the rest of the team pushes forward. BENNISON often works to win the second ball and shield the center, while CARUSO looks to carry the ball forward to link the defensive and attacking lines. Because there are only two players in the center, they must be ready to track back and cover the gaps when the ball is lost.
Up front, Juventus utilizes two forwards in BECCARI and VANGSGAARD to lead the line. They work as a partnership to pin the last defender and make runs in behind. On the wings, BONANSEA and CANTORE act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. BONANSEA and CANTORE look to cut inside or whip it in to the strikers in the box. The attack is designed to use quick combinations and create runs in behind to punish the opposition.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the box. By having four attackers, Juventus can overwhelm the opposition defensive line. Another strength is the speed of transition, allowing the team to break quickly and exploit space before the opponent can recover.
This 4-2-4 formation is an aggressive way to play that prioritizes constant pressure. It is most effective against opponents that are unable to play short from the back or struggle to cope with a high press.
