Inter looks to control games through a high press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2. This formation allows the team to dominate the central areas of the pitch while maintaining a strong presence in the attacking third. By using this lineup, Inter aims to win the ball high up the pitch and use the energy of the midfield to overwhelm the opposition.

Gregor Kobel acts as the last line of defense, acting as a shot stopper to maintain clean sheets. The back three consists of Jonathan Tah, Alessio Bastoni, and Benjamin Pavard. Bastoni is a ball playing defender who likes to carry the ball forward, while Tah provides aerial strength and stability. Pavard provides cover and can step up to intercept passes. This defensive unit works to hold a high line and squeeze the space between the defense and midfield to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

A three man midfield with a carrier works to link the defense to the attack. Joao Palhinha sits in front of the back three to shield the defense and win the second ball. Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries operate as attacking wing backs who provide the width for the team. Exequiel Palacios and Nicolo Barella operate in the half spaces to press aggressively and connect the lines. Barella is known for his high pressing intensity and ability to drive forward with the ball. This midfield group works to recycle possession and ensure the team can quickly switch play when needed.

The attack features two forwards in a partnership. Lautaro Martinez operates as a pressing centre forward who looks to find the feet of the striker and work in tight spaces. Marcus Thuram works alongside him, using his strength to hold up the ball and make runs in behind. These two forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball and win possession back quickly. The movement of the wing backs allows for overlaps and creates situations where the forwards can receive the ball in one on one situations.

Inter gains a massive advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. The ability of Dimarco and Dumfries to push high creates wide overloads that force the opposition to shift constantly. This lineup also allows for a high press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back. The combination of a solid back three and a physical midfield makes the team very hard to break down in a mid block.

This 3-5-2 formation relies on intense pressing and quick verticality to dismantle opponents. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back or cannot match the physical intensity in the middle of the pitch.
