River Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Armani · Bustos · Pezze · Pires · Diaz · Acuña · Krane · Nacho/Meza · Simon · Borja · ColidioRiver aims to control the game through central density in a 3-6-1. This formation relies on overwhelming the middle to dominate the ball and squeeze the space. The lineup works to dictate the tempo by keeping the play central and forcing the opposition into wide areas where they are less dangerous.
Armani serves as the goalkeeper to organize the back line. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back three featuring Pezze, Pires, and Diaz. Pires and Diaz operate as the wide centre-backs to cover the flanks and track back, while Pezze stays central to win the header and defend zonally. This back three can play out from the back to start attacks, often moving up to set the offside trap and maintain a high line.
The midfield is a massive engine room designed to control the center. Acuña, Krane, and Bustos form a three-man midfield with a carrier to protect the back three. Acuña and Krane work to shield the defence and win the second ball, while Bustos looks to carry the ball forward to connect the lines. Ahead of them, Nacho/Meza, Colidio, and Simon occupy the half-spaces. Simon makes late runs into the box, while the group works to recycle possession and play through the lines.
Borja leads the line as a lone striker and target man. He uses his strength to hold up the ball and pin the last defender, creating space for the teammates behind him. Colidio and Nacho/Meza often cut inside to act as secondary attackers, while Simon looks to arrive late into the box. The team builds the attack by spreading wide initially before moving into combinations in tight spaces to find gaps in the opponent's block.
A major advantage for River is the numerical superiority in midfield. By placing six players in the middle, they can dominate the ball and pick up runners before the opposition can react. Additionally, the team can press in a mid-block or trigger a press high up the pitch with Borja and the advancing midfielders. This makes it very difficult for the opponent to find space between the lines.
The 3-6-1 formation is built for heavy central dominance and ball control. This lineup is best suited for matches where the goal is to squeeze the opposition and dictate the rhythm of the game.
