Starting Lineup

River focuses on playing with high intensity and winning the ball back high up the pitch in a 4-3-3. This formation aims to control games through constant movement and quick verticality. The team wants to pin the opposition back and use a high press to disrupt their build up play from the back.

Armani operates between the posts to command the area. The defensive line uses a staggered back four where Casco acts as a right back to provide width while Enzo Diaz fills the left back role. In the center, Pires and Villagra work as the main central defenders to defend zonally and cover the space behind the high line. They must stay compact to avoid being caught out by long balls and must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside.

The midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier to progress the ball. Fonseca acts as a central engine to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Carboni sits in the left central role to help recycle possession and cover ground. Nacho plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines and arrive late into the box to score. This trio works to squeeze the space in the middle and deny the turn of opposition midfielders.

Attacking the opposition is done through three attackers across the front. Borja serves as a pressing centre forward who can hold up the ball to bring others into play. On the flanks, Solari and Echeverri act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Solari looks to isolate wide players in one on one situations while Echeverri uses his dribbling to break the line. This setup allows River to use the width of the pitch and create combinations in tight spaces near the box.

One major strength for River is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. The team also benefits from wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. This creates numerical superiority in the final third and allows for quick cutbacks to the arriving midfielders.
