Starting Lineup

Leao · Rijenders · Fofana · Theo · Cash · Pavlovic · Maignan · Gabbia · Sesko · Pulisic · Szoboszlai

Milan focuses on high intensity and verticality with this aggressive 2-5-3 formation. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and break quickly to catch opponents out of position. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and create heavy pressure in the final third.

Maignan acts as a sweeper keeper to support the two central defenders, Gabbia and Pavlovic, who play a high line. Gabbia and Pavlovic must be ready to cover large spaces behind them and win the header when long balls are played. This narrow defensive block requires intense concentration to stop runners between the lines.

The midfield consists of a three man unit supported by wide players to control the center. Rijenders and Fofana act as the engine, with Rijenders looking to recycle possession while Fofana works to protect the center and break the line with his driving runs. Szoboszlai operates in the pocket as an attacking ten, looking to play through the lines and find the attackers. Theo and Cash provide the width, acting as attacking wing backs who push high to stretch the defence.

In the attacking third, Milan uses three forwards to pin the opposition back line. Leao and Pulisic act as inverted wingers, cutting inside to create goal scoring chances and isolate one on one situations. Sesko operates as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and provide a target for crosses. The movement of Leao and Pulisic allows Theo and Cash to overlap the winger and deliver early balls into the box.

This formation provides significant tactical advantages through numerical superiority in midfield. By having five players in the middle, Milan can easily win the second ball and squeeze the space in the center. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for opponents to build out from the back.

The 2-5-3 lineup is a high risk, high reward system designed for total dominance. It is best suited for matches where Milan needs to break down a deep defensive block through sheer numbers and intensity.
