Starting Lineup

Rossi · Léo Ortiz · Wesley · Léo Pereira · Alex Sandro · de la Cruz · de Arrascaeta · Pulgar · Gerson © · Gabriel · B. Henrique

Flamengo relies on a high press and fast transitions with a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and using verticality to punish teams. The team looks to dominate the center of the pitch while maintaining enough width to stretch the opposition.

Rossi sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four that can step up to squeeze the space. Léo Pereira and Léo Ortiz act as the central defenders, with Léo Ortiz playing as a ball playing defender to start attacks. Wesley plays as an attacking full back to provide width on the right, while Alex Sandro covers the left flank. The defensive unit works to hold a high line and uses the offside trap to keep the opposition at bay.

The midfield is a five man unit that works hard to control the tempo. Pulgar acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Beside him, de la Cruz drives forward with the ball to connect the lines. Gerson © operates in the center, using his passing range to control the game and find teammates. In the half spaces, de Arrascaeta and B. Henrique push forward to create chances. This midfield group is built to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch.

Flamengo uses a lone striker in Gabriel to lead the line. Gabriel works as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and hold up the ball for others. The attacking front is supported by the two creative players in the pockets behind him. de Arrascaeta and B. Henrique operate as attacking midfielders who look to find gaps between the lines. The team builds attacks through short passes before looking to hit in behind on the transition.

The tactical advantages for Flamengo lie in the control of the central zones and the ability to press in waves. Having Gerson © and de la Cruz allows the team to win the ball back quickly and transition into attack. The width provided by Wesley ensures that the team can spread wide to stretch the defence. This makes the team very difficult to play through in the middle.

This 4-5-1 formation provides Flamengo with a balance of defensive stability and attacking punch. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to build play from the back.
